Artist Bio

Western artist Robert W. Blagg has developed a childhood interest in drawing and outdoor photography into a lifelong pursuit of watercolor, acrylic, and his current focus, pastel painting. A New Mexico resident since 1942, he received his BA in Education from UNM, and completed a Masters Degree in History from SMU. He spent 20 years as a teacher and coach with Albuquerque Public Schools, and 15 years in the insurance field before retiring in 1995. Bob studied with various art teachers at UNM, as well as Deborah Christensen, David Schwindt, Eric Michaels and Sue Buck. His present emphasis on soft pastel painting allows him to combine the media's color brilliance and layering quality in depicting the dramatic skies and striking landscapes of northern New Mexico. His work has been exhibited at numerous Fine Arts Galleries, community exhibitions, and art festivals, including the Pastel Society of New Mexico National Show. He received the Purchase award at the 1995-7 Alpine Artists Festival in Ouray, Colorado. Bob and his wife Jean, a noted floral designer, often combine their art for shows and exhibitions.
