Artist Statement

We came to New Mexico for vacations at first. Later when an opportunity became available to do so, we moved to Albuquerque. It was the dramatic colors, fantastic landscapes and the wonderful weather that drew us to New Mexico. And, soon after moving, taking photographs just wasn’t enough for me. I discovered that I liked painting and started painting on location.

Painting allows me to focus on a lovely scene for several hours while I try to capture my interpretation of the view on paper. Alternatively, if conditions are prohibitive, I take photographs so that later on I can relive the moment of my enjoyment of a scene by painting from the photograph.

I like to paint with all types of pastels but my favorite brands are Terry Ludwig, Unison, Girault, and Nupastel. I prefer the Kitty Wallis paper for a painting surface.

I have studied landscape painting with Deborah Paris. I have also taken classes with Deborah Secor, Paul Murray and Fred Miller. During the past year I took advantage of the New Mexico Pastel Society sponsored workshops with Frank Federico, Glenna Hartmann and Duane Wakeham.
